UPGRADE TO EXCELLENCE

This edition of Business Topics has been inspired by a fundamental belief in the value of maintaining, at the cutting edge, all aspects of your business.

Directors – Elevate the Standards

Why? – well for two reasons, it’s because we can, plus we as Directors need to continually develop and elevate the standards at which the business operates, for the benefit of our staff, our clients and our investors.

Human Equity – Upgrade to Excellence Program

Recently (mid April), Human Equity commenced its very own Upgrade to Excellence Program, with a completion date of 30 June 2006.

Now some of you may say that you should be always upgrading to excellence, well that said, my view is a little different, in this regard, which I would enjoy sharing with you.

Completion by 30 June, 2006 – Substantial Growth

By upgrading to excellence and completing such a program by 30 June 2006, we are then ready for substantial growth.

Importantly we launched the program, defined its importance and gave it an end date, complete with specific projects across the key components of the Human Equity business.

Human Equity - Standards Benchmark

The first question asked by the Team related to which areas needed attention, and was anything that they were doing sub-standard.  The answer was very simple.

On the Tuesday everything was to STANDARD, however I reset the HUMAN EQUITY STANDARDS BENCHMARK on Wednesday.  The result, some aspects of our activities were below the  NEW HUMAN EQUITY STANDARD, including my own effectiveness.

So, it was not as if anything was wrong, it was now simply a matter of not everything was up to the NEW HUMAN EQUITY STANDARD.

Consider Your Standards

The proposition for you all to consider. Is the STANDARD at which you and the business operates, appropriate and if not, should THE STANDRD be UPGRADED.

Why Bother?

For myself and the Human Equity Team, it was universally recognised that to confidently attack our next phase of growth, Upgrade to Excellence was required.

In your business, Upgrade to Excellence may be a way of addressing a different broad ranging issue, yet whatever it is, there is benefit, in a defined purpose.

Specific Projects

The specific projects being undertaken within the Upgrade to Excellence Program, are described for you, as a way of demonstrating some of the projects that you and your team may wish to undertake.

Key processes have been documented (with the assistance of 3rd party) complete with attached templates and examples – 98% complete.

A Strengths / Weaknesses / Opportunities / Threats review has been done, with prioritised actions developed, discussed, allocated and actions monitored, weekly.

“Building Client Relationships” – learning from the David Maister Seminar, have been debated, relevant components selected, with key learnings being implemented.

“Managing the Professional Services Firm” – learning from the David Maister Seminar, have been debated, relevant components selected, with key learnings being implemented.

Key Performance Indicators have been reset, communicated and the importance debated, accepted, allocated and monitoring re-incorporated into the weekly Business Development Meetings.

The 8 Modules by which we run the business have been allocated across the team, namely;

  • Marketing & Building Your Brand
  • Winning The Business
  • Delivery of Service
  • Finance and Administration
  • Infrastructure
  • People
  • Innovation and Development
  • Key Performance Indicators

Executive Summary

Upgrade to Excellence, may be just the rallying point, around which you and your team focus for the coming quarter.
